Ford Finds PSA Success In Salzburg

7 Mar 2010

Veteran English campaigner Ben Ford reaped maximum benefit from his visit to Salzburg in Austria when he beat Italian Andrea Torricini in today's final of the Austrian Open to win the $3,750 PSA World Tour Satellite squash title at the Squash & Tennis Centre Gneis.

Ford - at 34, the oldest player in the draw - reached the final after beating unseeded Italian Luca Mastrostefano in the semi-finals.

His opponent Andrea Torricini also survived a four-game semi-final - overcoming Germany's Raphael Kandra, the No8 seed who had earlier upset England's second seed James Snell.

But Ford, the event favourite from Welling in Kent, was too strong for seventh seed Torricini, winning 11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 11-6 in 54 minutes to claim the fourth PSA Tour title of his career.

Ford, who competes on the Tour alongside his coaching commitments in South London, dedicated his tournament win to his late father-in-law who passed away six weeks ago.
