Koukal Keeps Bratislava Crown

23 Dec 2009

Czech number one Jan Koukal successfully retained his PSA Imet Open title when he beat surprise English opponent Joel Hinds in the final of the $3,000 PSA Tour squash event at Imet Squash Club in the Slovakian capital Bratislava.

Top seed Koukal, the world No56 from Prague, dropped only one game en-route to the 15th Tour final of his career.

Hinds achieved the same - but the No7 seed did so after upsetting Austria's second seed Aqeel Rehman in the quarter-finals, then third-seeded Czech Lukas Jelinek in straight games in the semis.

But 26-year-old Koukal was in control in the final, beating Hinds 11-4, 6-11, 11-8, 11-4 to collect his second successive Tour title in the month - following his hometown success in the Prague Open a week earlier.

The title triumph takes Koukal's career PSA title haul to 11, and extends his 100% record in 2009 finals to three!

Final:
[1] Jan Koukal (CZE) bt [7] Joel Hinds (ENG) 11-4, 11-2, 11-9
