Finitsis Finishes First In Turin

7 Dec 2009

Australia's Steve Finitsis disappointed local hopes in the final of the Turin Open when he ended Italian qualifier Jose Facchini's dream run in the $6,000 PSA Tour squash event at Squash City Club in Turin to win the sixth Tour title of his career.

Facchini, a 37-year-old from Lucca competing in only his second Tour event of the year, made his breakthrough in the quarter-finals, where he beat fellow qualifier Adel El Zarka, an Egyptian who had ousted top-seeded Czech Jan Koukal in the opening round.

But second seed Finitsis, the Netherlands-based world No70 from Queensland, was too strong for the local hero in the final, winning 11-7, 11-5, 11-0 in 25 minutes to win the sixth PSA title of all-time, but his first this year.

Final:
[2] Steve Finitsis (AUS) bt [Q] Jose Facchini (ITA) 11-7, 11-5, 11-0 (25m)
