Castagnet Clinches First Tour Title In Sannois

16 Sep 2009

After finishing as runner-up in PSA Tour events each year for the past three years, Mathieu Castagnet finally clinched his maiden Tour title - on home soil - at the $6,000 PSA Super Satellite de Sannois at OS Sannois in Sannois, near the French capital Paris.

The 22-year-old world No66 from Le Mans reached in the final after beating Australia's No5 seed Steve Finitsis in straight games in the semi-finals.

And the top seed's opponent in the final was fellow Frenchman Gregoire Marche, the sixth seed who defeated England's unseeded Chris Truswell in the other semi.

Castagnet opened up a two-game lead in the final, but 19-year-old Marche - a former European Junior champion - fought back to draw level.

However, Castagnet recovered his composure to retake the lead, finally winning 11-3, 12-10, 5-11, 3-11, 11-6 after 77 minutes to make his long-awaited Tour title breakthrough.

Final:
[1] Mathieu Castagnet (FRA) bt [6] Gregoire Marche (FRA) 11-3, 12-10, 5-11, 3-11, 11-6 (77m)
