Bianchetti Flourishes At Festina Open

28 Apr 2009

Davide Bianchetti, Italy's highest-ranked squash player of all-time, added to his haul of PSA World Tour titles on home soil when he won the PSA Festina Open at the Sporting Club Milano in Basiglio, Milan, without dropping a single game.

After despatching his brother Andrea Bianchetti and fellow countryman Luca Mastrostefano in the quarters and semi-finals, respectively, the 30-year-old top seed from Brescia faced surprise opponent Peter Creed in the final.

Welshman Creed, the sixth seed, caused a significant upset in the semi-finals when he subdued second-seeded Spaniard David Vidal in straight games.

But the 22-year-old world number 198 from Caerphilly was no match for the favourite - ranked 168 places higher - in the final.

Spurred on by the crowd, Bianchetti defeated Creed 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 to mark up the tenth PSA Tour title of his career, and the fifth in his home country.

Final:
