Donna Delivers Home Success In Queensland

29 Jan 2009

Queenslander Donna Urquhart won the inaugural Women's Australia Day Challenge when she beat New Zealand's rising star Amanda Cranston in the final of the $4,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at Daisy Hill Squash Centre in Daisy Hill in Queensland, Australia.

The New South Wales-born 22-year-old's experience overwhelmed the young Kiwi, getting away to a fast start in each of the games. Cranston was never able to gain any rhythm in the hot and humid conditions. Urquhart was very sharp with her shot selection and all-court game, winning 11-4, 11-6, 11-3.

The triumph marked the third Tour title of Urquhart's career.

"The event wouldn't have been possible without the support of Squash Australia, the Australian Sports Commission, Dunlop and Daisy Hill Squash Centre," said tournament organiser Byron Davis, the Head Coach at AIS Squash.

Final:
