Mehboob Marches To CNS Title

6 Nov 2008

Runner-up last year, Pakistani Farhan Mehboob went one better this year when he beat compatriot Aamir Atlas Khan in today's final of the CNS International to claim the title in the $25,000 PSA Tour squash event in its eighth year at the Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Squash Centre in Karachi, Pakistan.

The four top-ranked players in Pakistan contested the semi-finals of the established event, with number one Mehboob, the 20-year-old event favourite from Peshawar, overcoming an injured Mansoor Zaman in just 13 minutes in one semi, and second seed Atlas Khan battling for 35 minutes to quash fifth seed Yasir Butt in the other.

The climax proved to be the longest match of the event with underdog Khan twice leading before Mehboob fought back. But it was favourite Mehboob who ultimately prevailed, winning 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7 in 78 minutes to claim the second Tour title of his career.

Mehboob can now look forward to the Pakistan Open in Islamabad next week - in which he is also top seed, and also expected to meet Aamir Atlas Khan in the final.

Final:
[1] Farhan Mehboob (PAK) bt [2] Aamir Atlas Khan (PAK) 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-6, 11-7 (78m)
