Kippax Celebrates Dutch Double In Enschede

29 Sep 2008

In an unexpected all-English climax to the Women's Pepsi Max Enschede Open, fourth seed Sarah Kippax beat Laura Hill, the No8 seed, in straight games in the final of the $8,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at De Twentehallen in Enschede to stretch her unbeaten record in the Dutch city to eight matches.

Kippax, who also won the WISPA event in 2006, made her breakthrough in the semi-finals when she upset Malaysian favourite Sharon Wee in straight games.

Despite being ranked 16 places above Hill in the WISPA world rankings, Kippax faced her final opponent following four successive Tour losses to her seven year older compatriot - the most recent being in the Forexx Dutch Open earlier in the month.

However, from the outset it was clear that the world number 31 from Halifax, was in her element in Enschede, moving and hitting freely against a tired looking Hill. Kippax took the opening game with relative ease after racing away to an early 8-3 lead, and managed to pull back an 8-2 deficit in the second game to effectively kill the match.

Even though Hill, a fire-fighter from Derbyshire, kept trying hard and never gave in, it wasn't enough to upset the rhythm of her opponent as Kippax went on to win 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 to lift the Pepsi trophy for the second time in three years.

The title marks the fifth Tour triumph in Kippax's career - and will be a major confidence-booster for the 25-year-old in next month's Hi-Tec World Championships in Manchester where she was recently appointed as "Official Ambassador" for the first joint men's and women's World Opens to be staged in the UK.

Final:
[4] Sarah Kippax (ENG) bt [8] Laura Hill (ENG) 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 (33m)
