Camilleri Captures Wah Cantt Crown

25 Aug 2008

Australian Lisa Camilleri denied the organisers home success in the Women's POF WISPA Wah Cantt Open when she beat Pakistan's Maria Toor Pakay in the final of the $10,000 WISPA World Tour squash event in its fourth at the Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in Wah Cantt, Pakistan.

Top seed Camilleri, the world No41 from Queensland competing in her seventh Tour final of the year, was facing WISPA final debutante Maria Toor Pakay, a 17-year-old from Islamabad playing in only the tenth Tour event of her brief career.

After dropping the first two games, the Pakistan teenager fought back from 3/7 down in the third, then saved a match-ball at 8-10 before going on to take the game to reduce the deficit.

But too many unforced errors by Pakay in the fourth ultimately saw 25-year-old Camilleri clinch an 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6 victory after 34 minutes.

Camilleri, the first Australian to win the Pakistan WISPA title, is celebrating the sixth Tour title of her career - and her fifth this year!

Final:
[1] Lisa Camilleri (AUS) bt [2] Maria Toor Pakay (PAK) 11-6, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6 (34m)
