Farhan Mehboob Powers To President PSF Title

17 May 2008

Within days of qualifying for the Dunlop British Open and stretching a seed to five games, Pakistan teenager Farhan Mehboob was back on home soil where he celebrated his maiden PSA Tour title success in the JSIL President PSF International at the Jansher Khan Squash Complex in Abbottabad.

The 19-year-old from Peshawar fought off local opponents all the way to the final, where he took on third seed Yasir Butt, also from Pakistan.

After dropping the opening game in the second Tour final of his career, top seed Mehboob regained the upper hand to beat Butt 5-11, 11-10 (3-1), 11-7, 11-5 in 40 minutes.

The new champion's younger brother also had much to celebrate in Abbottabad: Waqar Mehboob, the 17-year-old Pakistan Junior champion, came through the qualifiers - then despatched second seed Shahid Zaman in straight games in the first round, before going on to reach the semi-finals where he fell to Yasir Butt.

Final:
[1] Farhan Mehboob (PAK) bt [3] Yasir Butt (PAK) 5-11, 11-10 (3-1), 11-7, 11-5 (40m)
