Pritchard Powers To Home Success In Welsh Junior Open

4 Mar 2008

Natalie Pritchard became the first home winner of the women's title in the Kane Mailing Welsh Junior U19 Open for five years when she beat England's Kerry Sample in the final of the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit event at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.

Top seed Pritchard, just 17, reached the final without dropping a game - then maintained her 'clean sheet' run by beating second seed Sample 9-6, 9-2, 9-6.

Scot Lyall Paterson denied the hosts a Welsh double by defeating favourite Hywel Robinson in the men's U19 final. Paterson, the 18-year-old second seed from Aberdeen, recovered from a game down to beat local hero Robinson 0-9, 9-6, 10-8, 1-9, 9-5.

Both Pritchard and Peterson were celebrating their maiden ESF Junior circuit successes.
