Adnan & Hawkes Win NSC Tour Titles In Kuala Lumpur

26 Mar 2008

Malaysia's Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan and New Zealander Jaclyn Hawkes won the NSC Tour event titles in Kuala Lumpur after contrasting finals today at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in the Malaysian capital.

Adnan, the fourth seed in the men's NSC 1 Star No1 championship, faced Bilal Zaman - the No6 seed from Pakistan who strolled through to the final after receiving a walkover from his injured opponent Mike Corren in the semi-finals.

And 23-year-old Zaman, from Peshawar, took a 2/1 lead against home hero Adnan as a significant upset looked on the cards.

But the KL-based 21-year-old fought back to win 11-6, 10-11 (1-3), 5-11, 11-3, 11-9 in 56 minutes to earn the third PSA Tour title of his career - and the third in his home city Kuala Lumpur.

The final of the Women's NSC Tour 12 No1 event was a more straightforward affair in which top seed Hawkes took on Joshna Chinappa, the sixth seed from India.

Hawkes, the world number 18 from Auckland, romped to a two-game lead before Chinappa fought back to force a tie-break in the third game. But the Kiwi kept control and clinched a 9-1, 9-2, 10-8 win after 30 minutes.

Hawkes is celebrating her second WISPA World Tour title success - but the first since July 2005 when she won her maiden tour trophy at the South Australian Open in Adelaide.

Men's final:
[4] Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan (MAS) bt [6] Bilal Zaman (PAK) 11-6, 10-11 (1-3), 5-11, 11-3, 11-9 (56m)

Women's final:
