Top Juniors To Contest Tecnifibre British Under 19 & 15 Championships Titles

21 Feb 2008

Just a week after the nation's top seniors have battled for supremacy in the British National Championships, it is now the turn of the juniors - as 170 of the country's best young players compete in the Tecnifibre British Under 19 & 15 Championships at Nottingham Squash Club, from 22-24 February.

Tecnifibre have become the headline sponsors of the British Junior National Squash Championships until the end of the 2010/11 season, following the conclusion of a three-year England Squash agreement with Smash Sports Limited, distributors of the brand in the UK & Ireland.

Adrian Waller (Hertfordshire) and Victoria Lust (Bedfordshire) are seeded to retain the Don Sanderson Under 19 titles they won last year at the National Squash Centre in Manchester. Waller, who has won British titles at all four age categories, will be renewing his great rivalry with No2 seed and former Under 17 champion Joe Lee (Surrey), whom he pipped to last year's title.

Victoria Lust, who has three British titles to her name, starts as hot favourite in the Girls' Under 19s - but will face fierce opposition from the current Under 17 holder Kimberley Hay (Northumbria), Sarah-Jane Perry (Warwickshire) and Victoria Bell (Cumbria), who has now returned to fitness after a long injury lay off.

In the Boys' Under 15 category, British Junior Open semi-finalists David Wardle (Surrey) and Oliver Holland (Nottinghamshire) are seeded to meet in Sunday's final. Sophie Lemom (Essex) is the top seed in the Girls' Under 15s, but will have to overcome opposition from Jemma Ockwell (Hertfordshire), Emily Whitlock (Cheshire) and Katie Smith (Yorkshire) if she is to add the Under 15 crown to the Under 13 title she won back in 2005.

The Championships involve a heavy schedule at Nottingham SRC with matches running from 9.00am on Friday 22 February with the finals scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday 24 February. Any visiting spectators will be welcomed free of charge.
