14 Feb 2008

Top-seeded Helsinki hero Olli Tuominen squandered a two-game lead against Rob Sutherland in the first round of the Savcor Finnish Open before beating the Welsh qualifier in five games in the $20,000 PSA Tour squash event at Mikkeli Squash Club in Mikkeli.

Tuominen's 11-3, 11-9, 8-11, 7-11, 11-3 victory takes the Finn into a quarter-final against Simon Rosner after the fifth seed from Germany beat New Zealand qualifier Campbell Grayson 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.

Australian Scott Arnold was the highest seed to fall - beaten 11-10 (4-2), 7-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5 in 80 minutes by unseeded Swede Badr Abdel Aziz.

There was mixed French success in the event - fourth seed Julien Balbo crashing out in straight games to South African qualifier Clinton Leeuw, while unseeded Mathieu Castagnet survived a marathon clash against Scott Handley before upsetting the sixth-seeded Englishman 9-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-4, 6-11, 11-10 (5-3) in 85 minutes.
