Azlan Lands Papua New Guinea Title

19 Jul 2004

Malaysia's Mohd Azlan Iskandar celebrated his third PSA Tour title success when he lifted the inaugural Trukai PNG Squash International trophy in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The second seed was taken the full distance by surprise opponent Cameron Pilley in the marathon 91-minute final. Pilley, the third seed, had earlier upset fellow Australian Dan Jenson, the former world no5 and favourite, in straight games in the semi-finals.

Pilley, the 21-year-old world No45 from Queensland, put up a good show but Iskandar was too physically strong, despite having played a 100-minute plus match two nights earlier and fending off a challenge from Stephane Galifi of France the previous night.

Twice Iskandar led, and twice Pilley levelled the match, before the world No28 from Sarawak, now training in London, established his authority to win 15-11 13-15 15-6 12-15 15-5.
