Kitchen Prevails In Greenwich Open Final

29 Jan 2008

In a gripping climax to the Women's Harrow Greenwich Open, New Zealander Shelley Kitchen prevailed in 80 minutes to beat England's Alison Waters to win the WISPA World Tour Silver 30 squash title in Greenwich in the US state of Connecticut.

Fourth seed Kitchen claimed her unexpected place in the final after upsetting second seed Vanessa Atkinson in the semis - while Waters, the fifth seed from London, defeated England team-mate Laura Lengthorn-Massaro, the No6 seed who was an earlier shock winner over US favourite Natalie Grainger.

In a final in which the lead changed too many times to count, it was the 28-year-old from Auckland who came back from a game down to triumph 4-9, 10-9, 9-10, 9-3, 9-2 to claim the 12th WISPA World Tour title of her career.

Final:
[4] Shelley Kitchen (NZL) bt [5] Alison Waters (ENG) 4-9, 10-9, 9-10, 9-3, 9-2 (80m)
