Kronemeyer Punishes Pittock In Philadelphia

19 Jan 2008

Karen Kronemeyer caused the only upset in the first round of the Women's Liberty Bell Open when she upset Australia's fifth seed Amelia Pittock in the WISPA World Tour event in its fourth year at Berwyn Squash & Fitness Club in Philadelphia, USA.

The unseeded Dutch player snatched the first two games for the loss of only two points - but Pittock powered back to draw level. But it was Kronemeyer who had the upper hand in the decider, winning 9-2, 9-0, 5-9, 7-9, 9-6 to claim an unexpected place in the quarter-finals.

US interest is led by Latasha Khan, the No2 seed from Seattle who beat English qualifier Lauren Selby 9-4, 9-4, 9-2. On the eve of her 35th birthday, Khan will meet Alana Miller, the No7 seed from Canada, for a place in the semi-finals.
