Anjema Fights Back For Baltimore Crown

16 Oct 2007

Top seed Laurens Jan Anjema staged a mighty recovery against second seed Shahier Razik in the final of the Merritt Properties Baltimore City Open to win the $25,000 PSA Tour squash title at Merritt Athletic Club in Baltimore, USA.

The 24-year-old Dutchman from The Hague dropped only one game on the route to his 16th Tour final - against third-seeded Englishman Alister Walker in the semi-finals.

After Anjema took the opening game, Canadian champion Razik struck back - winning the second game in a whitewash, then taking the third to move 2/1 ahead.

But Anjema battled back to force both the fourth and the deciding game into tie-breaks - clinching them both to record a dramatic 11-8, 0-11, 8-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-10 (3-1) triumph.

The win marks Anjema's second PSA Tour title of the year - and the sixth of his career.

Final:
[1] Laurens Jan Anjema (NED) bt [2] Shahier Razik (CAN) 11-8, 0-11, 8-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-10 (3-1)
