WSF CEO Conference "Exceeded Expectations"

Delegates who attended the first World Squash Federation CEO Conference in England last month judged the WSF initiative to have "exceeded expectations".

Chief Executives representing WSF Member Nation Federations from Asia, Europe, Oceania and Pan America attended the inaugural conference hosted by England Squash in Manchester from 19-21 September.

"The initiative responds to WSF's revised role in Development - to become a conduit for the sharing and dissemination of best practices and success stories," explained WSF Chief Executive & Secretary General Christian Leighton.

Opened by WSF Vice-President Frank van Loon, the conference featured modules on 'Strategic Planning' by Gary O'Donnell of Squash Australia; 'Marketing' by Volker Bernardi on behalf of the German Squash Federation; 'Administration' by Mike Thompson of Squash New Zealand; 'Competitions' by the host federation CEO Nick Rider; 'Development' by Karl Mak of Hong Kong Squash; and the 'Olympic Programme' by Christian Leighton.

"The two-day meeting gave delegates a unique opportunity to exchange approaches and ideas on how to develop and grow squash around the world," Leighton continued.

"It is clear that there is real synergy between the WSF's 'Strategic Plan for Squash' and those strategic plans that are in place at National level. This alignment is crucial as we work as a team to take the sport to the next level," added the WSF Chief Executive.

"The overwhelming view of all the participants was that the conference exceeded expectations - and that, despite the growing reliance on electronic communication, there is no substitute for a face-to-face gathering at which so many parallel experiences can be shared and new ideas generated.

"I would also like to thank all delegates for helping make this a landmark event. England Squash also deserves a special mention for their wonderful hospitality - a highlight for all involved," concluded Leighton.
