Rachael Recovers To Win Alexandria Title

23 Aug 2007

Rachael Grinham celebrated her 40th appearance in a WISPA World Tour squash final in appropriate style by beating local star Engy Kheirallah to claim the Women's Alexandria Sporting Club Open title at the Alexandria Sporting Club in the Egyptian city of Alexandria.

But the 30-year-old top seed from Australia was made to work hard for the title by Kheirallah, the second seed.

The 25-year-old former champion from Alexandria took the first game before world number three Grinham powered back from 3-5 down in the second game to clinch victory by a 2-9, 9-3, 9-1, 9-4 margin.

Grinham's maiden win at the Alexandria Sporting Club Open brings to four the number of WISPA Tour titles she has won in Egypt since moving to Cairo in 2001. However, the success takes her career Tour title haul to 24 - thereby extending her lead ahead of Malaysia's world number one Nicol David as the current player with the most Tour titles!

Final:
[1] Rachael Grinham (AUS) bt [2] Engy Kheirallah (EGY) 2-9, 9-3, 9-1, 9-4
