Jans Ends Korean Fairytale In Calgary

The fairytale WISPA World Tour debut by Korean qualifier Lee Hai-Kyung came to an end in the final of the Women's Airdre Chrysler Calgary Open when she was beaten in four games by Canadian No2 Melanie Jans Burke in the Alberta capital.

After defeating eighth seed Margriet Huisman in straight games in the opening round, the 29-year-old from Seoul claimed the biggest scalp in the event when she overturned England's top seed Lauren Briggs in a four-game quarter-final.

It was after beating fourth-seeded Canadian Katie Patrick in the semis that Hai-Kyung faced her final hurdle, fifth seed Jans Burke. However, the experienced 31-year-old from Vancouver, the 2001 Canadian national champion, was too strong for Hai-Kyung, and went on to win 5-9 9-4 9-2 9-7 to claim her fourth WISPA title.
