El Hindi Retains Heliopolis Title

13 Jul 2007

Despite being tested for over 80 minutes for the third time in the event, top seed Wael El Hindi successfully defended his title in the Rotary Heliopolis Open when he beat fellow Egyptian Karim Darwish in a five-game final of the $41,000 PSA Tour event at the National Stadium in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Second seed Darwish, the world No11 from Cairo, twice led in the match - but was unable to contain his compatriot ranked a single place higher.

El Hindi had been stretched for 90 minutes just 24 hours earlier, against fellow countryman Mohammed Abbas - but triumphed 5-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8 in 84 minutes against Darwish to earn the fifth PSA Tour title of his career, and his third on home soil.

Final:
[1] Wael El Hindi (EGY) bt [2] Karim Darwish (EGY) 5-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8 (84m)
