Power Marches On To Cleveland Semis

15 Oct 2004

Canada's Jonathon Power reached his third PSA Tour semi-final in a month when he beat Scotland's Martin Heath in four games in the quarter-finals of Cleveland Classic in Ohio, USA.

It was a close-fought contest, with seventh seed Heath coming out strong in the first game and taking the favourite by surprise with his tight length and crisp attacking volleydrops. Power then knuckled down and started to move his opponent around the court using his patented flicks and holds and worked Heath hard in the next two games. This eventually led to the Scot running out of steam in the fourth as Power captured his 8-11 11-6 11-8 11-1 victory in one minute under the hour.

In a repeat of their Motor City Open clash last week, Power will now face Australia's Dan Jenson, the fourth seed who needed 86 minutes to quash eighth-seeded Canadian Shahier Razik 11-5 7-11 11-6 11-7.

The other semi-final will also feature Canadian interest as second seed Graham Ryding takes on unexpected South African opponent Rodney Durbach. It was one-all in the quarter-final between Durbach, the sixth seed, and third seed Paul Price when the Australian was forced to concede the match after having trouble with his hip halfway through the second game.

The final match of the evening saw Ryding topple Italy's fifth seed Davide Bianchetti - but it took the 29-year-old from Toronto 87 minutes to earn his 11-5 11-8 10-11 11-9 victory.
