Sander Kock & Heba El Torky Win German Junior Open Titles

9 May 2007

Egypt's Heba Alaa El Torky and Dutchman Sander Kock have become the surprise winners of the women's and men's titles in the German Junior U19 Open at the Sport-Treff-Punkt centre in Mülheim, Germany.

Unseeded Kock strung together a remarkable series of victories en-route to his first European Squash Federation Junior Circuit title - following a straight games victory over 3/4 seed Maxime Moriamez in the men's quarter-finals with a dramatic five-game win over second-seeded Frenchman Gregoire Marche in the semis.

In the final, the 18-year-old from Amsterdam recovered from a game down to beat Petr Martin, the top seed from the Czech Republic, 3-9, 9-3, 9-4, 9-5.

Second seed Heba Alaa El Torky reached the women's final without dropping a game. The 16-year-old from Alexandria - winner of the British Junior U17 Open title at the beginning of the year - took the opening game against Wee Wern Low in the final.

But the 5/8 seed from Malaysia bounced back to move two-games-to-one ahead. Determined to better her performance in February's French Junior Open, where she finished as runner-up, El Torky regained the initiative to secure her 9-4, 3-9, 5-9, 9-1, 9-5 victory.

Men's U19 Final:
Sander Kock (NED) bt [1] Petr Martin (CZE) 3-9, 9-3, 9-4, 9-5

Women's U19 Final:
[2] Heba Alaa El Torky (EGY) bt [5/8] Wee Wern Low (MAS) 9-4, 3-9, 5-9, 9-1, 9-5
