English Double In Irish Junior Open In Dublin

5 Dec 2006

Alex Ingham, from Surrey, and Victoria Bell, from Cumbria, pulled off a notable English double in the IACT Irish Junior U19 Open by winning the titles at the European Squash Federation (ESF) Junior Circuit event in Dublin.

Ingham, who won the British U15 National title last year, was the second seed in the men's event. After reaching the final without dropping a game, the 17-year-old from Weybridge upset Ireland's top seed Rory Byrne 9-1, 9-6, 9-7 to lift his first ESF circuit U19 title.

Victoria Bell is enjoying an excellent run currently and was named as top seed in the women's U19 event. The 16-year-old from Carlisle, who claimed her first British Junior title in October when she won the U17 National trophy, swept through the Dublin field - conceding only a handful of points before reaching the final.

Her opponent was compatriot Kirsty West, from Cheshire. Bell survived a tough second game, but ultimately prevailed 9-2, 9-7, 9-1 to collect her maiden ESF junior title.

[2] Alex Ingham (ENG) bt [1] Rory Byrne (IRL) 9-1, 9-6, 9-7

Women's final:
