Tenille Takes Out Top Seed In Meersquash Open

South African teenage squash star Tenille Swartz became the only qualifier to reach the semi-finals of the Women's Meersquash Open when she beat New Zealand's top seed Louise Crome in a shock upset in the new WISPA World Tour event in Hoofddorp in northern Netherlands.

Competing in only her second WISPA event since relocating to the Netherlands, Swartz repelled a fight back from the higher-ranked New Zealander to win 9-5, 9-2, 5-9, 3-9, 9-3 in 58 minutes.

The 19-year-old South African champion from Parys now meets Hong Kong's Elise Ng, the fifth seed who upset Ireland's No4 seed Aisling Blake 6-9, 9-7, 9-2, 10-8.

A major domestic Dutch upset in the lower half of the draw saw unseeded Margriet Huisman overcome second seed Orla Noom 9-4, 4-9, 10-8, 6-9, 9-7 in 63 minutes.

The 22-year-old from Arnhem now faces Italy's third seed Manuela Manetta, who beat Germany's Daniela Schumann, the No8 seed, 9-4, 9-0, 9-7.
