Power Meets Parke In St Louis Comeback

30 Sep 2004

After withdrawing from this month's US Open with a gluteus minimus injury, former world No1 Jonathon Power makes his comeback at the St Louis Open in Missouri, USA, where the top seed faces English qualifier Simon Parke, a former US Open champion, in the first round.

Parke maintained the form which took him to the final of the English Open in August and the quarter-finals of the US Open two weeks ago - both times as a qualifier - to claim a first round berth in St Louis by beating Australia's Cameron Pilley 11-3 11-5 8-11 11-6 in 68 minutes in the qualifying finals.

The Nottingham-based Yorkshireman was joined by compatriot Ben Garner in the first round after the Surrey 24-year-old beat fellow Englishman Lee Drew 11-9 11-3 11-7. Garner will meet Australia's Anthony Ricketts, the sixth seed, in the first round.
