Grant & Zaman To Contest CNS International Final

29 Sep 2006

England's top seed Adrian Grant and Mansoor Zaman, the No3 seed from Pakistan, will meet in the final of the CNS International after surviving marathon semi-final battles in the $25,000 PSA Tour event at the Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Complex in Karachi, Pakistan.

Zaman, currently the highest-ranked player in Pakistan, avenged his shock defeat earlier this month in the World Open in Egypt when he beat teenage compatriot Aamir Atlas Khan.

But the 16-year-old qualifier from Peshawar fought back from a game down against Zaman to lead 2/1.

Left-hander Zaman, the South Asian Games champion, called upon his greater experience to reclaim the advantage - ultimately winning 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-10 (2-0) in 64 minutes to reach his 14th PSA Tour final.

Grant also had to come from behind - recovering from the loss of the first game to beat Irishman Liam Kenny, the fourth seed, 9-11, 11-1, 11-6, 11-8 in 77 minutes.

Londoner Grant, one match away from his third PSA title win in Pakistan, is celebrating his 16th PSA final appearance.

Semi-finals:
[1] Adrian Grant (ENG) bt [4] Liam Kenny (IRL) 9-11, 11-1, 11-6, 11-8 (77m)
[3] Mansoor Zaman (PAK) bt [Q] Aamir Atlas Khan (PAK) 11-6, 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-10 (2-0) (64m)
