Handley Takes Tilburg Title

21 Aug 2006

England's Scott Handley collected his first PSA Tour title for almost two years when he beat France's Mathieu Castagnet in the final of the Altipower Tilburg Open in the Netherlands city of Tilburg.

The new PSA Tour event was spectacularly staged on an all-glass court erected in the Tilburg's De Heuvel town square, overlooked by the city's famous cathedral.

Handley, the top seed from Oxfordshire, reached his anticipated place in the final after dismissing third-seeded compatriot Sam Miller in the semi-finals.

Eighth seed Castagnet, however, had to upset England's fourth seed Chris Ryder to reach the semi-finals, then overcame his second successive Englishman with an 11-7, 11-6, 7-11, 4-11, 11-8 defeat of seventh seed Chris Simpson.

But Handley was too strong for the 19-year-old from Le Mans in the final, beating Castagnet 11-5, 11-4, 11-8 to win the seventh PSA Tour title of his career.
