15 Aug 2006

World Open champion and World No1 Nicol David has confirmed her entry for this year's Dunlop British Open, which will be staged at the University of Nottingham from 15-18 September. The 22-year-old Malaysian has expressed her determination to defend the world's most prestigious squash title and repeat a second British Open/World Open double this year.

David, who has recently scored a hat trick of WISPA World Tour titles to reclaim the world No1 ranking, will head a star-studded women's field including world No2 Vanessa Atkinson of the Netherlands; British Natioanl Champion Tania Bailey; Egyptian Omneya Abdel Kawy; Ireland's Madeline Perry; and English players Vicky Botwright, Jenny Duncalf and Alison Waters.

"Nicol David has enjoyed remarkable success over the past twelve months and confirmation that she will defend her British Open title is a major boost for everyone involved in delivering this year's event," said tournament promoter Paul Walters of iSPORTmarketing.

"The success of the British Open last year in Manchester was evidence of our commitment to working with England Squash in preparing a solid framework for the event which will see the tournament continue as the most prestigious squash championships in the world - and Nicol's participation is testament of the highest regard that the players hold for the championships," Walters added.

The 2006 Dunlop British Open, the most prestigious and longest-established event in world squash, will feature the world's leading male and female players, as well as a full programme of masters and junior events.
