Swelim Swoops To Swiss Upset

Egyptian qualifier Amr Ramzy Swelim caused the biggest upset on the opening day's play in the Losone Swiss Classic when he beat Czech number one Jan Koukal in Losone, Switzerland.

Two games behind and 2-6 down in the third game, the 21-year-old from Cairo bravely fought back to defeat sixth seed Koukal 10-11 (1-3), 7-11, 11-10 (2-0), 11-2, 11-8 in 58 minutes.

Swelim now faces Laurent Elriani after the fourth-seeded Frenchman beat Italy's Luca Mastrostefano 11-5, 10-11 (0-2), 11-4, 9-11, 11-1.

Local players Andre Holderegger and Nicolas Mueller both lost in four games. Egypt's No8 seed Sherif Moustafa Kamel beat Holderegger 11-8, 10-11 (0-2), 11-6, 11-8, while 16-year-old Mueller took a game from second seed Rafael F Alarcon before the Brazilian dug deep to record an 11-9, 10-11 (1-3), 11-5, 11-5 victory in 40 minutes.
