Stoker Steps Into Finnish Open Quarters

England's Georgina Stoker caused the only upset in the first round of the Savcor Women's Finnish Open when she beat Hong Kong's No8 seed Christina Mak in five games in the established WISPA World Tour event in Mikkeli, Finland, which is now in its 14th year.

The 20-year-old from Merseyside fought from a game down to beat Mak 3-9, 9-6, 9-6, 2-9, 9-3.

"It was a hard and very long match," said Stoker afterwards. "Christina plays very fast and it is very difficult to play her."

Stoker will now meet compatriot Sarah Kippax, the second seed who beat Celia Allamargot after the 19-year-old from France withdrew injured after just two games.
