Swaify Storms Into Semis Of First New PSA Event In Iran

In only his second appearance on the PSA Tour, Egyptian teenager Ahmed Gamal Swaify stormed into the semi-finals of the FAJR International on Kish Island in Iran after upsetting Hong Kong's top seed Wai Hang Wong.

In the first ever PSA Tour event in Iran, three local players made it through to the second round of the $6,000 FAJR International before losing out to established international players.

Swaify, a 19-year-old former Egyptian junior international from Alexandria, took just 29 minutes to overcome Wai Hang Wong 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 in today's quarter-finals to set up a meeting with fourth seed Timothy Arnold. The Malaysian also beat a Hong Kong opponent, sixth seed Dick Lau.

The other semi-final will be an all-Egyptian affair between Amr Ramzy Swelim and Omar Mosaad. Third seed Swelim beat seventh-seeded compatriot Mohamed Elkeiy 9-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-6, while Mosaad, the No2 seed, defeated Malaysia's fifth seed Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan 8-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9.
