David Extends World Ranking Lead
1 Jun 09
Twin Tour title triumphs last month by Nicol David have extended the Malaysian's lead at the top of the Women's World Squash Rankings, according to the new June list published today by the Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA).
The 25-year-old from Penang avenged her shock defeat by Natalie Grainger in the final of the KL Open in March by beating the world number two from the USA in the finals of both the Cayman Islands Open and Texas Open - and now boasts more then twice the number of ranking points (3,340) of her nearest rival.
Sisters Rachael Grinham, representing Australia, and Natalie Grinham, now a Dutch national, are at three and four, respectively.
But a change in the English hierarchy sees Londoner Alison Waters jump one place to No5 to become the highest-ranked player from England - ahead of sixth-placed Jenny Duncalf, and Laura Lengthorn-Massaro, who slips to eight.
Waters, 25, celebrated her second WISPA title success at the Cannon Kirk Homes Irish Open in Dublin in April.
Victory in the Hurghada International on home soil in April helped lift Egypt's Omneya Abdel Kawy to seventh place in the new list.
